if you have an android device and your location is not updating, please follow the troubleshooting steps below.
also, if your friend's location is not updating on your device and they have an android device, please share this page with them.

ensure push notifications are turned on

In order for the location information to be updated accurately, you need to turn on push notifications for the application. This may sound a bit systematic, but in order to update accurate location information, notifications of information updates are sent out behind the scenes of the system. Therefore, notification settings must be allowed.

change the push notification of whoo to "on" in the notification settings of your device settings.
Iif whoo is not present in your notification settings, please contact us via X or Instagram dm.

enable wifi

enabling wifi can significantly improve location accuracy, even when not connected to an active wifi network. your device gathers information from wifi points to pinpoint your current location.

disable battery optimizers

if enabled, these settings can prevent whoo from running in the background. therefore, your friends will only see your real-time location when you have the app open. there are usually found within the battery settings.

disable data savers & data restrictions

verify that whoo is exempt from the data saver as it requires access to data to send your location to your friends. ‘settings’ > ‘connection’ > ‘data usage’ > toggle off ‘data saver’

ensure that whoo has permission to access your location

whoo will not be able to detect your location if you haven’t granted permission. ‘settings’ > ‘applications’ > ‘whoo’ > ‘permissions’ > enable ‘location’

enable location services & set location mode to high accuracy

whoo will not be able to find you if location services are turned off. ‘settings’ > ‘location’ > toggle on ‘location’ > toggle on ‘high accuracy’

ensure that you have an active wifi or 4g/5g connection

enabling wifi can significantly improve location accuracy, even when not connected to an active wifi network. when enabled, your device gathers information from wifi points to pinpoint your current location instead of relying on cell towers, which can sometimes be far away.

ensure that whoo is exempt from auto-cleanup settings or third party auto-clean applications

some third-party auto-cleanup applications can prevent whoo from running. if you have downloaded any cache cleaning or memory cleaning apps. please verify that whoo is exempt.

updating app ver

try updating and restarting the app! if the app version is old, it is prone to problems.

ensure that whoo is allowed to auto-start

some devices have settings that exclude some applications from starting. the most common phones to have these applications are xiaomi, oppo, and vivo.

environmental factors

please note, sometimes due to environmental factors such as having a low cellular signal and no wifi signal, an accurate location won't be available.
